Overview

Web-Development

Very comfortable with HTML and CSS syntax and general webpage design patterns.

JavaScript

Java & SQL

Software Development

JavaScript

Proficient with the core syntax of the JavaScript programming language and the React.js library.

Can utilize JavaScript as both a functional and an object-oriented programming language. Competent in performing DOM manipulations and adding dynamic features to front-end applications with and without frameworks. Familiar with the NodeJS runtime environment. Skilled with React.js and familiar with the jQuery and jQuery UI libraries.

HTML & CSS

Skilled in writing and designing the UI in front end applications with HTML and CSS.

Experiences include work with responsive design, using tools like media queries to create pages that function for desktop / mobile applications, flexboxes / grids, and animations / transitions (with or without JavaScript). Writes HTML code with discerning semantics.

Python

Java

Experienced building (w/ Maven), configuring, and utilizing the Spring/Spring Boot framework, with focus on the web, JPA (w/ MySQL), Security (basic authentication & JWT), OAuth2, & Lombok dependencies.

SQL

Seasoned with SQL, primarily MySQL, some Postgres.

Able to make requests to a database through a terminal, an SQL UI (MySQL Workbench), or through an app (Java + JDBC / Hibernate / Spring). Capable of creating a database or maintaining an existing one. Competent with CRUD (create, read update, delete) operations.

Problem Solving

Capable problem solver, with and without the use of external resources.

Competent in writing original code and solving most problems without the help of LLMs or other resources. Prefers breaking problems down into smaller pieces and following a logical step-by-step process to find a solution.

IDE & TE Experience

Prefers using VSCode as main code editor, especially for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Extensive experience using VSCode for Java and Python but prefers JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm IDEs respectively.

Data Structure & Algorithm

Familiar with common Data Structures and Algorithms.

Capable of creating and implementing data structures (array, linked list, stack, queue, and tree) and common algorithms (binary search, merge sort, etc.). Strong understanding of Big O Notation.

LLMs

Effective at using LLMs (AI) to quickly complete time-consuming tasks. Not reliant on LLMs to code.

Strong writing skills allow for descriptive prompts that usually deliver a desirable output. Strong fundamental understanding of programming languages also enables a more precise result from writing prompts involving code.

Music

Percussion

Percussionist with 15 years of experience playing a wide assortment of percussion (or related) instruments.

Taught by several teachers and holds experience from dozens of musical groups. Versatile performer capable of entering any group or any genre. Garnered much leadership experience after being in several section leader/principal percussion positions.

Music Theory

Educated in Western Classical Music Theory by Dr. Kaitlin Bove and Dr. Kenneth Owen at Pierce College in WA.

Knowledgeable of Scales, enharmonics, intervals, triads & 7th chord structures & inversions, part writing/voice leading & counterpoint, harmonic progressions, musical form & structure, non-harmonic tones, sequences, applied chords (tonicization & modulation) and modal mixture. Capable transcriber for most instruments (including all percussion). Understanding of lead sheet symbols often used in jazz. Keen understanding of a-tonal music and common patterns used in its composition. Extremely comfortable with meter and rhythm.

Ear Training

Competent relative pitch for tuning and performance purposes.

Specially trained at tuning timpani before and during a run-through of a piece with or without gauges/guides. Also capable of tuning percussion instruments.

Keyboarding

Trained for a year by Heidi Davidson in keyboarding fundamentals.

Teachings include playing with proper technique in several starting positions. Experience playing in several major and minor keys.

Snare Drum

Trained extensively on Marching Snare Drum by Emmanuel Olaiya and Brent Edwards.

Very capable performer in both group and solo settings. Has a very strong grasp of rudimental drumming, including a refined technique in both matched and traditional grip, a focused playing mindset, effective sight-reading skills, and a deep understanding of commonalities (like rudiments or exercises) found within the rudimental drumming space. Just as effective a player on concert snare as marching snare.

Mallet Instruments

Taught for several years by Dr. Miho Takekawa on the Marimba and Vibraphone.

Honed skills in 4-mallet technique (primarily Steven’s grip). Capable of performing in solo or group settings, mainly in the classical setting. Competent on Xylophone, glockenspiel (orchestral bells) or other similar mallet instruments.

Drum Kit

Mostly self-taught drum-kit performer with guidance from Dr. Miho Takekawa and Dr. James Doyle.

Experienced primarily in jazz, and but also rock, concert, contemporary, and electronic performance settings. Jazz drumming experience includes swing, Latin, and others.

Teaching

Experienced teacher in many musical subjects for students up to an early collegiate level.

Expertise mostly in marching, concert, and athletic band styles and percussion instruments, but can also teach lower-level drum kit. Also capable of teaching music theory and lower-level keyboard. Competent tutor in both private and group settings. Knowledgeable of a vast amount of repertoire useful for assigning to students to help them grow as musicians. Experiences are derived from teaching students in middle school, high school, community colleges, and 4-year universities.

Symphonic Band

Gained vast experience in collegiate through professional level musical groups.

Capable of playing most percussion instruments, including snare, mallets, timpani, hand-drums, cymbals, most auxiliary, and some niche instruments like the bodhran.

Marching & Drum Corps

Extensively trained in marching/drum corps music and performance.

Experienced playing marching snare, bass, tenors, crash cymbals, and glockenspiel. Vast performance experience from parades and field shows. Refined technique in marching footwork, including technique specific to marching battery. Versed in general effects often used in field show settings. Capable of writing/arranging music, effects, and drill for marching battery.

Athletic Band & Drumline

Highly experienced player in athletic settings & performing stadium and drumline music.

Excellent player and soloist on all marching percussion instruments. Capable of writing/arranging music of all skill levels for drumline.

Jazz

Experienced jazz performer on drum set, hand-drums and applicable auxiliary in jazz-band or jazz-combo settings.

Genres include swing, Latin, bossa nova, samba, blues, and big band. Capable of arranging music for and directing low to mid-level ensembles.

Soft Skills

Leadership

Garnered strong leadership skills after being in numerous leadership and management positions.

Began fulfilling leadership roles in middle school, and consistently throughout high school, college, and post-college activities. Accepts the responsibility that a leader should hold and remains open to criticism. Has a strong willingness to listen to those around him. Strongly believes leaders cannot be strong or effective in their space unless they have been a strong follower in that space first.

Teaching
